the idea
the bob dylan deck is 54-card deck designed and illustrated by myself. The look-and-feel of the cards are inspired by four well-known bob dylan tracks: subterranean homesick blues, black diamond bay, the house of the rising sun, and all along the watchtower. the visual elements of each individual suit adheres to a particular dylan track.
the process
creating a 54-card deck is a wonderful exercise in putting robust design system into practice. ensuring that every icon, letter, illustration, and element stays aligned and in place on each individual card is critical to the rhythm, unity, and cohesion of the deck. using the adobe creative suite, I created a grid system and guide format that allowed me to achieve just those goals.
